Milan – In an increasingly globalized context of medical and scientific research, the Lombardy Regional Welfare Minister, along with the Regional President and the Undersecretary to the Presidency for International Relations, embarked on an official mission to the United States. During the visit to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one of the world's leading biomedical research institutions, the minister met with Italian researchers and laid the groundwork for future collaborations between Lombard and American scientific institutions.
Building Bridges Between Lombardy and the United States
The meeting with Italian researchers at the NIH had a dual purpose: to strengthen existing relationships and to create new opportunities for exchange and training. The minister discussed the possibility of establishing a dedicated international relations department within the Lombardy Welfare Directorate. This new division would coordinate and facilitate collaboration between Lombard and international centers of excellence, promoting a two-way flow of knowledge and expertise.
Following this, a meeting was held at the Italian Embassy in Washington with over 50 Italian healthcare professionals working in various US cities, including Washington, New York, Miami, Boston, San Diego, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The minister presented the Lombardy healthcare model, highlighting its efficiency and high level of qualification. He emphasized that this model is recognized not only nationally but also at the European level as one of the most advanced and effective. This international recognition is a key element in attracting Italian professionals abroad to reconnect with Lombardy.
The next step will involve representatives from Lombard Institutes of Research and Care (IRCCS) traveling to the United States after the summer. The goal is to further explore the collaboration possibilities discussed, creating a stable bridge between Lombard and American research institutions. This exchange will not only enrich the skills of the professionals involved but also foster new joint research projects that could lead to significant advancements in various medical fields.
The initiative to create an international relations department within the Lombardy Welfare Directorate represents a strategic move to promote research and innovation. Through this new unit, existing collaborations can be consolidated and new ones developed, expanding the horizon of opportunities for both the professionals and institutions involved.
Such initiatives are crucial in an increasingly interconnected world, where the sharing of knowledge and resources can accelerate scientific progress and improve the quality of medical care. Collaboration with international centers of excellence not only strengthens the Lombardy healthcare system but also contributes to professional and technological growth that can have positive global repercussions.
